How Much Does a Video Memoir Cost?

Great question! Video memoirs can range drastically in price. If you’re not sure whether you should get one at all, you might want to read this first.

Now that we’ve settled that you should, the big question becomes: how high of quality do you want?

There are budget-friendly options starting around $1,000. These typically involve sending you a camera to record yourself or conducting the interview over Zoom.

On the other end, there are premium options that cost $8,000–$15,000. These often include high-end cameras, extensive prep work, and multiple people on-site. That might be fine if you enjoy spending money just for fun, but most people are looking for something in the middle, high-quality video memoirs without the overwhelming cost.

That’s where Roots & Story comes in. We deliver the high-end experience at a fraction of the price (and with less intrusion in your home). Our pricing is $3,200 for a single-person interview and $3,800 for a couple interview. We also weave in photos and video clips to bring your story to life visually.

(Quick side note: an interview is often better than a documentary. Documentaries are costly and don’t allow nearly as much time for actual storytelling. Personally, I’d rather see my ancestors on the screen than a lot of filler content.)

Our interviews also come with unlimited time. Whether it takes two hours or eight, the price stays the same. We never want someone to feel rushed while sharing their life story.

Families have even asked us to fly thousands of miles to record because our pricing was still far more affordable than the $10,000 options available in their city.

At the end of the day, legacy videos are priceless, but that doesn’t mean you should overpay or settle for low-quality. With Roots & Story, you’ll receive a beautiful, lasting memoir at a fraction of the cost.
