WHY WE BUILT THIS

My dad Carroll was diagnosed with cancer. He had young kids at home, old enough to feel the loss, young enough to forget the details.

In the middle of all that fear and uncertainty, we did something that turned out to be one of the best decisions our family ever made. We sat down with him and recorded his story. His voice. His laugh. The way he told a story. The things he wanted his kids to know about where he came from and who he was.

He was our very first interview.

Six months later, he was gone.

We have watched his children grow up knowing they can press play someday and hear their dad tell his own story. In his own words. On his own terms. That video exists because we acted when we had the chance.

That is why we built Roots & Story. Not as a business idea. As a response to something real.

We know what it feels like to sit in a room and watch someone you love tell their story on video. We know what it feels like to be grateful beyond words that you did it when you had the chance. And we know what it feels like when the window closes.
